पलाश के पेड़ पर फूल केवल फाल्गुन में लगते हैं। इन फूलों को भिगो कर इन से अबीर और गुलाल बनाया जाता है।
जब फूल लगते हैं, तब पत्तियां एकदम झर जाती हैं, जिस से पेड़ पर केवल लाल लाल फूल ही दिखाई पड़ते हैं। उस समय यह पेड़ बहुत मनोरम लगता है।
पलाश का दूसरा नाम टेसू है।
