Vaccination begins for 15-18 year olds

As announced by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, on December 25th, 2021, vaccination for 15-18 year olds started in India on 3rd January, 2022.

According to the CoWin dashboard, 41,99,584 young adults got vaccinated on the first day of the vaccination drive. On 4th January, this figure rose slightly to 43,09,077 children.

As can be understood, this is the fastest growing age segment of vaccine takers.

At about 70 lakhs, the number of rural vaccinations was 2.5 times the number of urban vaccinations (about 28.6 lakhs) – data for 3rd January 2022.

It is notable that consistently, 18-44 year olds have remained the largest group of vaccination takers. Even in the last 2 days, the number of 18-44 year olds getting vaccinated was more than the number of 15-17 year olds, who formed the second largest group.

The Prime Minister and the Health Minister congratulated the people and the health workers for the vaccination coverage.
