On August 26th 2022, Shokhuvi Railway Station – became the second railway station in Nagaland.
Mr. Neiphiu Rio, the Chief Minister of Nagaland, flagged off the Donyi Polo Express from Shokhuvi Railway Station (the train from Guwahati in Assam to Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh).
Shokhuvi Railway Station now increases the connectivity access to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Shokhuvi is a small village situated in Nagaland with a population of over 500 families.
Neiphiu Rio stated that the Railways will be extending the services to Zubza (a town in Nagaland) to new Kohima (a town in Nagaland) and onward to Imphal (a city in Manipur).
Neiphiu Rio pointed out how the new railway station would aid in achieving the government’s Act East Policy; it will connect India with South East Asia, fetching economic benefits and improving connectivity.
Anshul Gupta, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager, stated that the new avenue of Indian Railways working with NFR would help connect different capital states of the northeastern states.
The only other railway station in Nagaland is Dimapur. That station was inaugurated in 1903.
