Mizoram Election Results

Mizoram state assembly elections were held in November 2023. The counting of votes started at 8 am on 4th December and the results were announced the same day.

Mizo National Front (MNF), which had the current government under the Chief Minister, Mr. Zoramthanga, secured 10 seats. Zoram People’s Movement – a political party that started working in 2018, secured the majority of 27 seats in the 40 seat Assembly.

Mr. Zoramthanga has been the Chief Minister of the state since 1990, when he took over after the demise of the then CM, Mr. Laldenga.

Accepting moral responsibility for the defeat of his party, the 79-years-old leader, Mr. Zoranthanga, met the governor of Mizoram, Shri Hari Babi Kamabhampat, and submitted his resignation.

Mr. Lalduhoma, the leader of the winning ZPM and likely the next CM of Mizoram, is an IAS officer. His party first participated in the Mizo election process in the 2018 elections.
