India’s 14th Vice President – Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar

The Vice Presidential Elections were held on the 6th of August, 2022.

The counting was also done on the spot.

Now, the new Vice President of India is the candidate chosen by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Mr Jagdeep Dhankhar.

The number of votes needed by a candidate to win the vice presidential elections is 371. Shri Jagdish Dhankhar got 528 or 70% of the votes. The vice president candidate chosen by the opposition, Ms. Margaret Alva, got 200 votes.

Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar will take over Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, our current vice president. He will take office on the day Mr. Venkaiah Naidu’s tenure is over, the 10th of August, 2022.

He will be India’s 14th Vice President. He is 71 years old.

Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar was born on May 18, 1951 in Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan.

He was actually a lawyer who came into politics.

He was first part of the BJP, then joined the Indian National Congress (INC), and then came back to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The posts held by him, so far are:

1. Former Governor of Bengal
2. Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Affairs
3. Member of the Legislative Assembly, Rajasthan
