HURT vs ANGER

By Deyashini Chattopadhyay

So much difference,
Just two little words –
Two words which make
The world of difference.

But you would never
Know it – by sight or ear
…Only by feeling.

That feeling when you
Want to cry out loud,
But hold it all in –
When your cool politeness,
Is mistaken for attitude,
That’s hurt.

But when you scream,
Feel a hunger
To annihilate and throw,
You know it’s anger.

The difference is that
When you’re hurt,
You want someone
To hold you and say,
“There there, it’s okay.”

But when you’re angry,
Calming down or
Counting to three,
Just fuels the emotion.

The difference is that,
When you’re hurt,
You’re just a fire cracker,
Exploding – or sighing –
Somewhere, far away,
In the night.

But anger makes you
A grenade;
Ready to take everyone
Down with you as you go.
