Go First and Jet Airways lose airline codes

All flights have a flight number. For instance, AI 804.

For example, in the screenshot below, we notice the Flight numbers:

AI 946 and AI 1649 are flight numbers.

The first two characters in a flight number indicate the airline of the flight.

In this example, AI stands for Air India.

Likewise, every airline in the world has its own two-character airline code.

This airline code is given to a registered airline by IATA – International Air Transport Association.

This airline code is required to schedule flights, do ticketing, and use international logistics like baggage handling, parking bays, etc.

GoFirst and Jet Airways lose airline code

The airline code for two airlines of India – GoFirst and Jet Airways, has been suspended by IATA.

Both airlines don’t have active flights.

Go First Airlines stopped operations in May 2023 while Jet Airways has been out of action for many years now.

Talks between Go First and its creditors have not been successful so far.

Yesterday, the founder of Jet Airways, Shri Naresh Goyal, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for fraudulent money practices.
