Emergency in Nigeria

The Nigerian President, Mr. Bola Tinubu, has declared a state of national emergency on food security.

Many farmers in Nigeria have given up farming because of criminals who kidnap for ransom.

This, and other factors, have led to a shortage of food.

The National Security Council will now be responsible for all matters relating to food and security.

Many measures have been taken to protect the farmers and ensure food security. Some of these are:

A. Immediate release of fertiliser and seeds to farmers.

B. Synergy between the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Water Resources to ensure all-year production of food.

C. Security has been upped so that farmers might work fearlessly.

Inflation in Nigeria is at 22%. This means that something that costs 100 rs this year will cost 122 rs next year (on average).

Many Nigerians don’t have access to food and clean water.

Last year, Nigeria also had floods.

Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country and its largest economy.

More details on execution are awaited.
