7.3 magnitude earthquake in the Alaskan Peninsula

An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 was felt at the Alaskan peninsula.

The depth was about 13 miles and the epicenter was in the ocean.

Following the earthquake, the US twunami warning system has issued a tsunami warning.

However, the Australian Met bureau has releated a statement saying that there is no tsunami threat to Australia.

Since the earthquake happened only 90 minutes ago, we are not in a position to report whether the tsunami progressed as forecast by the warning system (image above).

Update: The tsunami warning has now been cancelled (2245 hours IST).
