New Delhi (India): Four Indian boxers – Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), Nitu Ghanghas (48kg), and Saweety Boora (81kg) have won gold medals in the World Boxing Championship 2023.
The other categories and India’s representation in them is as under:
- 52 kgs – India’s Sakshi made it to the quarter-finals.
- 54 Kgs – India’s Preeti made it to the quarter-finals.
- 57 kgs – India’s Manisha made it to the semi-finals.
- 60 kgs – India’s Jasmine made it to the quarter-finals
- 63 kgs – India’s Shashi Chopra reached the Round of 16.
- 66 kgs – India’s Manju Bamboriya reached the Round of 16
- 70 kgs – No participation in the Round of 16 and above
- 81+ kgs – India’s Nupur reached the quarter-finals.
China had eight players in the semi-finals, while India had five (of which four reached the finals). Kazakhstan had five, while Russia had three. Japan, Australia, France, Azerbaijan, Columbia, Brazil, and other countries were represented in the quarter-finals.
All four of India’s finalists won their final matches.
