Istanbul (Turkey): The World Boxing Championship for women, 2022, started on the 15th of May, 2022 and ended on the 20th of May, 2022..

Ireland topped the medals tally with 2 gold medals followed by India with 1 gold medal and 2 bronze medals.

Nikhat Zareen became the fifth Indian female boxer to clinch the gold medal at the championship.

Nikhat Zareen defeated Jitpong Jutamas from Thailand in the 52 kg category.

The scores were: 32-27, 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, and 29-28.

The bronze medal winners were Manisha and Parveen in the 57 kg and 63 kg category, respectively. 

Before this, MC Mary Kom had won the gold medal for India in 2018.

Zareen was the bronze medal winner at the Senior National championship.

At the Thailand Open, she claimed the silver medal.

At the Belgrade International Championship 2018 and at the Stradja Memorial she won the gold medal.

This was India’s 10th gold medal at the World Boxing Championship.
