A Piece of Paper Is Now A Self-Powered, Wireless Keyboard

Simple Self powered Wireless Keyboard First of Its Kind And Quite Inexpensive

USA, Nov 12: Scientists at Purdue University have found a way to make a piece of paper digitally interactive. Ordinary paper, converted to a self-powered, interactive and wireless keyboard or keypad. The team took a plain sheet of paper with a typical alphabetical keyboard printed on it and coated it with a neon-green highly fluorinated, omniphobic (a surface that repels anything like dust, water, oil) solution.

This coating will allow printing multiple circuit layers over the paper without smearing the ink. The circuit layers are constructed to be triboelectric. So each time a key-pressed, the touch will produce energy. The keypad is totally self-powered.

They have also demonstrated that plain paper can be transformed into music player interfaces for users to choose songs, play them, and change their volume. The team feels that multifunctional electronic devices can be built in the future based on this new technology.
