Seven Indians make it to the ‘Highly Commended’ List
The 56th edition of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards concluded on October 13th, and seven Indians made it to the ‘Highly Commended’ list. The prestigious award is bestowed by the Natural History Museum, London. The top prize was given to Russian photographer Sergey Gorshkov for his brilliant photograph of a Siberian tiger hugging a tree. Indian photographer Ripan Biswas’s stunning weaver ant gripping the leg of a tiger beetle’s image (titled – Drama on a different scale) bagged the Portfolio Award. Nayan Khanolkar and Masood Hussain received a special mention in the ‘Urban Wildlife’ category.
Aishwarya Sridhar’s ‘Dancing fireflies under the starlit skies’ also made it to the list. With this feat she became the first and the youngest woman to make it to the list. Sambath Subbaiah’s image of an eagle swooping down on a snake also received special mention. The image of a large male ghariyal carrying its offspring at National Chambal Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh by Dhritiman Mukherjee also made it to the list. Arshdeep Singh image of an endangered red-shanked douc langur received special mention in the 11-14 years age group. Vidyut R Hebbar’s image of a signature spider received special mention in the ‘10 years and under’ category. The competition attracted 46000 beautiful entries from professionals and amateurs across 86 countries.
