Why is Sudan in the news?
On April 15th, fighting broke out between the existing Commander of the Forces, Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan, and Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, the head of a paramilitary force called Rapid Support Forces.
Since then, the fighting has forced people to stay inside their homes.
On April 19th, after four days of fighting, a 24-hour ceasefire was announced.
The current president came to power after toppling the earlier President, Omar al-Bashir. President Bashir ruled Sudan for almost 30 years.
Everyone from the UN to US, BRICS countries, etc. is working to convince the two parties to stop fighting, and to evacuate (take out) their citizens from the country.
