Let us suppose that a group has ten members.
They have to vote on a decision. For example, should they watch Movie A or Movie B?
They simply put their choice on chits and put the chits in a box.
When the box is opened, 6 people have written “Movie A” and 4 people have written “Movie B”.
Since the number of people who chose Movie A is more than 50% (half) of the total members in the group, Movie A is selected.
This majority, which is anything above 50% of the total members, is called a simple majority.
