Summers are a great time to visit museums and dive deep into history.
But what if you want to visit a museum that is in another city. For example, suppose you live in Kolkata and want to visit the Salarjung Museuem in Hyderabad or the National Museum in Delhi?
Now you can.
C-DAC Pune has created a website where you can virtually visit 11 museums of India. At the time of writing this report, these museums are:
A. National Museum, Delhi
B. Indian Museum, Kolkata
C. Allahabad Museum, Prayagraj
D. ASI, Goa
E. ASI, Nagarjunakonda
F. NGMA – Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru
G. Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata
H. Babasaheb Ambedkar Museum, Pune
I. Salarjung Museum, Hyderabad (the largest private collection in India and the fifth largest museum in India)
The website is at www.museumsofindia.gov.in
There is also a 3D vieweing gallery where you can see some selected artifacts in 3D (you will need 3D glasses though).
Artifacts can be searched by type, location, material etc.
The website also includes reserve objects that are not usually available to see in the galleries.
