ITBP, NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army, and other forces pitch in to help
Delhi, Feb 10: On Sunday morning, a part of a glacier broke off and travelled downhill from Chamoli, a district in Uttarakhand, India.
Immediately, people downstream from the flow were evacuated and warned. Since a glacier had broken, a huge mass of snow, slush, and boulders travelled downhill without warning.
13 villages are now cut off from the mainland. Rations are dropped at a central village (Lata) by helicopter, and from there, ITBP jawans travel by foot to deliver them to the villagers.
In a unique operation, the Indian Air Force, special divers of the Indian Navy, and the Indian Army – all 3 units of the Armed Forces have come together to provide relief to people after the floods. Uttar Pradesh has sent 3 ministers to help.
