UNDP releases Human Development Index 2020

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) declared the Human Development Index 2020 (HDI). The top 10 nations on this list are:
1. Norway

2. Ireland & Switzerland

4. Hong Kong, China (SAR) & Iceland

6. Germany


7. Sweden

8. Australia & Netherlands

10. Denmark

India is ranked 131 (was 129 in 2019) out of 189 nations, two positions lower than previous year. Our neighboring nations, Sri Lanka is at 72, Bhutan at 129, Bangladesh at 133, Nepal at 142 and Pakistan at 154.

The Human Development Index (HDI) is an index that measures a country’s overall achievement in its social and economic dimensions. The three key dimensions are:
– Health, measured by life expectancy.
– Education measured by mean years of schooling of children and adult population.

– Standard of living measured by Gross National Income per capita of the country.
