The United Kingdom has been facing a shortage of some grocery supplies this month. The most noticeable shortage is of tomatoes.
There are multiple reasons being offered by different parties for this shortage. We share some of them.
The government has indicated that UK imports its tomatoes from southern Europe, especially Spain. But Spain has faced a poor harvest. This has limited the supply of tomatoes.
The other theory is that after Brexit, the UK imported most of its tomatoes from Morocco.
Now, Morocco has limited exports. This means that fewer supplies are reaching UK.
Most grocery stores have limited how many tomatoes a customer can buy.
Last week, some grocers also had limits on other fruits and vegetables.
