The Barpeta district of Assam was hit by a tornado on Saturday, May 7th.
Luckily, no possessions have been lost till now.
The tornado has been reported to have started at a river bank. The low intensity tornado was not anticipated, taking the citizens by surprise.
The deputy Director General of Meteorology at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati, Mr. Sanjay O’ Neil, confirmed that it was not a cyclone.
Many of the residents of the area took photos and videos of tornado swirling through the village.
The tornado destroyed a paddy field and a few huts but no lives were lost.
An assessment of losses is yet to be conducted.
Storms and lightning have been going on in Assam from the start of April.
The tornado led to a Yellow alert in Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Odisha.
