Washington DC, Feb 5: A stimulus check is a check sent to a taxpayer by the U.S. government. Stimulus checks are intended to stimulate the economy by providing consumers with some money for spending. Earlier during the pandemic, two stimulus packages were released in the U.S. President Joe Biden’s relief plan has a $1.9 trillion being directly paid to millions of Americans as the third stimulus check. Before the stimulus package is distributed it has to be approved by the House of Representatives and Senate.
After an all-night discussion that took nearly fifteen hours, when senators voted on the package, there was a 50-50 split (fifty Democratic senators and fifty Republican senators). As a result, Vice President Kamala Harris had to use her first ever tie-breaking vote in favor of the package. Democrats in the Senate applauded after Harris announced the finalized 51-50 vote at around 5:30 AM on Friday.
