For the last many weeks, two telecom companies – Verizon and AT &T have been pitted against the aviation industry in the US.
The reason is that these companies have to launch the 5G C Bands, but the aviation sector is certain that these bands will interfere with aircraft navigation and control.
Initially, the plan was to create exclusion zones – areas in which the 5G C band will not be applicable. But the aviation industry said that this will not solve the problem. They wanted the 5G rollout to be postponed until there is certainty that the flights will be safe for all passengers and crew.
The telecom companies would like the airline companies to change their altimeters to a different frequency.
After refusing to postpone the launch of the 5G C Band services, both service providers today released a statement that both Verizon and AT&T are voluntarily postponing the launch of the services till at least January 19th.
