Tata and Airtel partner up to create a ‘Made in India’ 5G network

New Delhi, Jun 22: Many people already know that Reliance Jio, a mobile service company, have declared that they have made such a product and have started testing it in the market. As it was already the market leader, it was no surprise that Tata and Airtel, the two rivalling companies, had to figure out a new strategy to match this move. This lead Tata and Airtel to form a surprising alliance to try to create their own 5G network.

On Monday evening, Bharti Airtel announced a well-thought-out partnership, which included its advanced O-RAN based Radio and NSA core and unified telecom stack. According to a statement given, this technology will be accessible for commercial development from January 2022.

This seems to be a very ambitious move as Airtel’s original plan was to collaborate with hardware and software players to build a low cost 5G network. The new alliance also has an advantage over Jio as Airtel either has its own networks or holds stake in telecom ventures in other geographies like Africa, Sri Lanka, etc. It is predicted that this new network will give India a humongous boost in becoming an innovation and manufacturing destination in the telecom industry.
