Sushil Chandra takes charge as Chief Election Commissioner

Takes over from Sunil Arora

New Delhi, Apr 13: Shri Sushil Chandra, a 1980 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, took charge as the Chief Election Commissioner today.
The Election Commission (EC) of India is responsible for holding elections at all levels in all parts of the country. It ensures that elections are fair.

The Election Commission is led by three Election commissioners, one of whom is designated as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
Shri Sunil Arora was the earlier CEC. Sushil Chandra was one of the three election commissioners. With his taking charge as the CEC, there is a vacancy in the Election Commission. He will remain the CEC till 14th May 2022. Assembly elections of Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh will be held under his leadership.

He is an alumni of IIT Ranchi. On his very first day in office, EC issued notices to two politicians for their conduct.
