Once upon a time, two farmers, Abharam and Dayaram, were carrying their produce to the market. In those days, they carried their produce on their heads, in heavy sacks.
After a while, Abharam started faltering a bit. The other farmer, seeing this, said, “If that is too heavy, i can help carry it for a bit. You can rest, eat something, gain strength, and then take it back.”
Abharam gratefully gave his load to Dayaram, who now walked unsteadily with twice the load on his head. Dayaram drank some water, ate some of the sattu (protein rich local food) that he had carried from home, and walked alongside Dayaram.
After walking for over 30 minutes, Abharam made no effort to take the load back from Dayaram. Dayaram stopped and asked Abharam when he intended to take his load back.
“Oh, I am too weak to carry this, Daya. I cannot carry it. Will you please carry it all the way to the end?”
“Can I also then take the sale proceeds?”Dayaram asked.
“Of course not! How can you say that?” Abharam asked.
“Well, in that case, my friend, it is your load to carry. I can help, but I cannot absolve you of the responsibility of the load.”
