Tokyo, July 24: Here is the update for the first day of the Olympics.
- Archery: In the mixed team category, South Korea’s An San and Kim Je Seok bagged thegold medal. Netherlands’ Gaby SchloesserandSteve Wijler got the silver medal, andMexico’s Alejandra Valencia and Luis Alvarez got the bronze medal
- Road Cycling: Richard Carapaz of Ecuador beat Belgium’s Wout van Aert and bagged thegold medal. Wout van Aert and Slovenia’s Tadej Pogačar got the silver and bronzerespectively
- Fencing: In women’s épée (a thin, light sword) individual, Sun Yiwen of China won the goldmedal. Ana Maria Popescu from Romania got the silver medal. Lastly, Katrina Lehis of Estonia got the bronze medal. In men’s sabre individual, Hungary’s Aron Szilagyi bagged the gold. Luigi Samele of Italy and Kim Jung-hwan of South Korea won the silver and bronze respectively.
- Judo: In the women’s 48kg category, Distria Krasniqi from Kosovo won the gold. Japan’s Funa Tonaki got the silver. Urantsetseg Munkhbat from Mongolia and Daria Bilodid from Ukraine claimed the bronze medal.
In the men’s 60kg category, Japan’s Naohisa Takato got the gold medal. Yang Yung Wei of Taiwan and L. Mkheidze of France got the silver and bronze respectively - Shooting: In men’s 10m air pistol, Iran’s Javad Foroughi set an olympic record of 244.8 points and took the gold medal. Serbia’s Damir Mikec got the silver. The bronze went to Pang Wei of China. In women’s 10m air rifle, China’s Yang Qian bagged the gold. Russian Anastasiia Galashinatook the silver. Bronze went to Nina Christen of Switzerland.
- Taekwondo: In men’s 58 kg category, Vito Dell’Aquila of Italy defeated Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi of Tunisia and took the gold. Jang Jun got the bronze. In women’s 49kg category, Panipak Wongpattanakit of Thailand got the gold. Spain’s Adriana Cerezo Iglesias got the silver and Israel’s Avishag Semberg got the bronze medal.
- Weightlifting: Zhihui Hou of China lifted a total of 210 kgs (94 in snatch + 116 in clean and jerk) and got the gold. India’s Mirabai Chanu lifted 202 kgs (87 + 115) and bagged the silver. Windy Cantika Aisah lifted 194 kgs (84+110) and won the bronze.
