Japan, Aug 24: We all know that every four years, the Olympics are held. Just a few weeks after the Olympics, we get a chance to witness the Paralympics.
Similarly, this year also, the Paralympics is going to take place. It will be the 16th Paralympics. It will take place in Tokyo, Japan. (Fact: it is the 2nd time Japan is hosting the Paralympics. They last hosted it in 1964).
This year, 537 events from 22 sports will be hosted. 163 nations will be participating in the Paralympics.
India in the Paralympics: India has sent a 54 member contingent, in which Devendra Jharjharia, a Javelin thrower and the high jump champion Mariyappan Thangavelu have won a gold in Rio 2016.
The Indian flagbearer is Tek Chand, a javelin thrower.
