Tokyo, Japan, August 6: India at the Olympics – Day 14:
Golf: Golfer Aditi Ashok finished second in Round 3 in the women’s individual stroke play and will play in the finals today. She trailed world no.1 Nelly Korda by just three shots. She scored 12 under par. 23-year-old Ashok rolled in five birdies and overcame a bogey in the middle of the game. She is two par above the golfers tied at third. Diksha Dagar finished at fifty-first with seven above par.
Hockey: Indian women’s hockey team lost the bronze medal match to Great Britain 4-3. Even though they lost, they created history as this is the Indian women hockey team’s first ever bronze- medal-match. The Netherlands beat Argentina 3-1 to win gold.
Wrestling: In men’s freestyle 65 kg, Bajrang Punia won the 1/8 finals against Ernazar Akmataliev and 1/4 finals against Morteza Ghiasi Cheka, 3-3 and 2-1. He then lost the semifinals 5-12 against Haji Aliyev. In women’s freestyle 50 kg, Seema Bisla lost 3-1 in the 1/8 finals against Sarra Hamdi.
Athletics: In the Men’s 50 km Race Walk Final, Gurpreet Singh pulled himself out due to cramps after the 35 km mark in 2 hours 55 minutes and 19 seconds. In the Women’s 20 km race walk, Priyanka Goswami finished 17th and Bhawna Jat finished 32nd. In the Men’s 4 x 400 m relay heat 2, India finished fourth. With a timing of 3:00.25 they broke the Asian record. However, they finished 9th overall and did not qualify for the finals.
