Sports News: Olympic medal tally and Indian performance

Tokyo, Jul 25: The Tokyo Olympics which started amid covid restrictions on 23rd July has witnessed many athletes bagging medals to make their countries proud. Below is the list of events that took place on 25th July 2021, in which Indian’s athletes took part:

  • In the Badminton women singles event, PV Sindhu of India won 21-7, 21-10, against Ksenia Polikarpova of Israel. This win has promoted her to the next round.
  • In the table tennis women singles event, Manika Batra of India won against Margaryta Pesotska of Ukraine. This win has promoted her to the next round which will take place on 26th July 2021.
  • In the gymnastics women’s qualification event Indian gymnast Pranati Nayak failed to qualify for the all-around final.
  • In the women’s fly (48-57 kg) boxing event, Mary Kom of India won 4-1 against Miguelina Hernandez of the Dominican Republic. This win takes her to the next round.
  • In the men’s lightweight boxing event Indian boxer Manish Kaushik, was defeated by the British boxer Luke McCormack.
  • And finally, in the men’s pool hockey event the Indian National Team, lost to the Australian hockey team.

Medal Tally: As of 25th July 25, 2021, China is leading the overall medal tally with a total of 11 medals. India is currently ranked 24th in the medals tally with one silver medal.
