Delhi, Jul 14: Tour de France is one of the world’s toughest long-distance cycling challenges. The race has 21 stages spread over 23 days. This year, the race has 8 flat, 5 hilly, and 6 mountain stages, 3 of which finish at a high altitude. On average, riders have to cycle more than 150 kms per day. There are only 2 rest days.
Today was the day of the exhilarating 17th stage of the tournament. Muret to the Col du Portet is 178.4 kms of mountain bike riding with three long and steep climbs of the Pyrenees mountains.
Tadej Pogacar, the 22-years-old leader of UAE Team Emirates won this stage. Jonas Vingegaard came a close second. Pogacar is also the overall winner at this stage of the tournament. Pogacar won Tour de France for the first time in 2020 (last year). This makes him the defending champion of the race.
