Sochi, July 16: The FIDE World Cup 2021 is this year’s chess world championship with 206 participants. Eight Indians have reached the second round, among whom two won, five drew, and one lost. Praggnanandhaa R won against Gabriel Sargissian in just 41 moves and Adhiban B took just 22 moves to defeat Neuris Delgado Ramìrez. Gukesh D drew against Danlil Dubov. Vidit Gujrathi, Aravindh Chithambaram, Nihal Sarin and Harikrishna R drew their games. Magnus Carlsen won against Saša Martinović. In the women’s event, four Indians reached the second round among whom one won, two drew, and one lost. Harika D won against Medina Warda Aulia in 48 moves. Bhakti Kulkarni drew against Natalian Pogonina and Padmini Rout drew against Khademalsharieh. R. Vaishnavi lost against Bela Khotenashvili.
