Sochi (Russia), Jul 20: In the ongoing FIDE Chess World Cup, Rinat Jumabaev, Kazakhstan’s top player, advanced to the fourth round of the World Cup by defeating World’s number 2 player Fabiano Caruana.
India’s young grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa defeated Michal Krasenkow 2-0 to move into the fourth round.
P Harikrishna beat Constantn Lupulescu 1.5-0.5 and would face Iran’s M Amin in the fourth round. Harikrishna is the second highest ranked Indian at 21 after Viswanathan Anand.
B Adhiban won the second game in 66 moves against Vidit Santhosh Gujrathi to level the match 1-1. The third round went into a tie breaker. In the women’s matches, D Harika lost to Valentina Gunina in the third round.
The FIDE world cup 2021 has 206 participants in all, and 103 in the first women’s world cup. It is taking place in Krasnaya Polyana, near Sochi, Russia from July 12th to August 6th.
