The 2023 Badminton Asia championship was held in Dubai from 25th – 30th Apr 2023. This international tournament was hosted by the United Arab Emirates Badminton Federation.
The pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy won the men’s doubles, winning this title, and making it a proud moment for India. This comes 58 years after Dinesh Khanna won this championship for India in 1965. The Indian pair won the finals against their Malaysian opponents, Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi in games of 21-16, 17-21,19-21.
The star doubles pair also regained their career best ranking of World No.5 post this win.
Anthony Sinisuka Ginting from Indonesia won the men’s singles finals. He defeated Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in games of 21-12, 21-8. The final game lasted for 28 minutes.
Tai Tzu-ying from China won the women’s singles against Republic of Korea’s An Se-young. It was a game of 21-10, 21-14 which lasted 34 minutes.
The Japanese pair Fukushima Yuki and Hirota Sayaka won the women’s doubles. They won by 21-7, 21-14. Their opponents, Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee were from the Republic of Korea.
The mixed doubles finals was won by Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin from China. Their opponents were Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong, also from China. It was a game of 21-15, 21-16.
