Hengelo, June 7: The 40th edition of the FBK (Fanny Blankers- Koen) Games – World Athletics Continental Tour Gold level meeting was held in Hengelo, the Netherlands on Sunday, June 6, 2021. Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands stole the show by breaking the women’s 10,000m world record with a stunning run of 27 minutes and 6.82 seconds. The previous record of 29:17:45 was set at the 2016 Olympic Games by Ethiopia’s Almaz Ayana. Sifan Hassan now holds the world record for the mile, road 5 km, one- hour run, and 10,000m. She also holds the world titles for 1500m and 10,000m.
Interestingly, four world records have been broken ever since World Athletics introduced new rules for track spikes (shoes) in 2019. They include 5,000m and 10,000m men’s and women’s world records.
