Tashkent April 17: Indian Weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu on Saturday won a bronze medal at Asian weightlifting Championship held in Tashkant. She lifted a total of 205kg (86 + 191) in Clean and jerk Category. China’s Hou Zhihui and Jiang Huihui took the gold (213kg =96 + 117) and silver (207kg = 89 + 118) respectively in the women’s 49kg category.
The earlier record for the single heaviest weight lifted in this category was 118kg, held by a Jiang Huihua, but Mirabai Chanu overcome that record by lifting 119kg.
Clean and jerk is a category in weight lifting where the lifter lifts the barbell ‘cleanly’ from ground to rack position and jerks it overhead to arm’s length and then drops it back.
