Second Edition of the Khelo India University games inaugurated at Bengaluru

The second edition of the Khelo India University games has been inaugurated at Bengaluru on 24th April by the Indian Vice-President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu.

Cultural events, acrobatics, and a laser show, representing the culture, tradition, and heritage of Karnataka were featured at the inauguration.

A postal stamp commemorating the event was also released.

The Khelo India University Games will have 4,500 sports people and 189 universities participating. There will be 20 disciplines at the event and 75 gold medals. The games contested are:

  4. Fencing
  5. Judo
  6. Swimming
  7. Weightlifting
  8. Wrestling
  9. Yogasana
  10. Malakhamb
  11. Badminton
  12. Basketball
  13. Football
  14. Hockey
  15. Table Tennis
  16. Volleyball
  17. Tennis
  18. Rugby
  19. Kabaddi
  20. Shooting
  21. Karate

Yogasana and Malakhamb are part of the KIUG (Khelo India University Games) for the first time.

The Anthem is by a Kannada singer – Chandan Shetty. The Mascot is Veera, the elephant.

The logo depicts an athlete running. The jersey, also, shows an athlete running. The KIUG are also called the Green Games as anything used on the field will be made exclusively out of waste materials. Only electric vehicles will be used for the transportation. The games will get over by the 3rd of May 2022.
