Scorpene Class Submarine INS Karanj Commissioned Into Indian Navy

Chennai, Mar 11: INS Karanj is a Scorpène-class submarine (class of diesel-electric attack submarines) developed in India. It was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 10th March, 2021. It is one of the smallest and quickest submarines to date, and can attack its target accurately. It has the best sonar (a device for detecting objects underwater by means of sound waves) that makes very less noise. It can go deep into the ocean for a long period of time. It got its name after a fish locally found in Maharashtra. The motto of the submarine is ‘Nitya Nirghosh and Nirbhik’ which means ‘stealthy and fearless always’. It has a 39-member crew.
