School Bhuvan: Understanding India – One Map at a time, courtesy ISRO

If you are a school student, you have definitely done the maps of India. And sometimes, they can be really hard to remember. Where are the iron mines? Mica? Bauxite? Where are our oil reserves? Oof! So much to learn!

But what if maps became a fun thing? How would you like that?

There is a GIS (Geographical Information System) portal that has been created by ISRO specially for school students!

Its called School Bhuvan, and it allows us to have a lot of fun with maps. For example, we played around and created a map to show iron mines, oil fields, natural gas, mica, manganese, and Bauxite, all in a single map. This allows us to see the mine and mineral wealth of India at one go.

What’s more, we can also compare the map of India on two separate parameters. For example, we compared the population density with the type of forest cover:

Who can access School Bhuvan?

Any student of India can access Bhuvan. It is available automatically in CBSE schools. No registration is required.
