Shri Ratan Tata, noted industrialist and the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, was honoured with the Order of Australia.
This is the highest civilian honour of Australia. Unlike Bharat Ratna, which is usually conferred only on one individual at a time, the Order of Australia is conferred on Australians who have contributed to the nation.
There are four levels of the award. The Order of Australia also has a Military Division (awards in this division are recommended to the Governor-General by the Minister for Defence).
