Born At Nantong Forest Safari Park In China
Extremely rare, adorable, one month old, four white lions born on November 6, this year, are going to make their first public appearance on Saturday in a Chinese zoo.
The pictures of quadruplets playing and eating together were released recently. The white lions are native to South Africa. There are less than thirteen in the wild today and hundreds of them are in captivity. Their unique white colour of fur is due to recessive mutation (mutation is a change in the structure of a gene; recessive mutation is an inactived gene. In the lions the gene that makes the coloured pigment called melanin has undergone recessive mutation, so no colour).
According to Global White Lion Protection Trust, they are the same species as African lions. They are listed as vulnerable on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red list. These are the second set of these lions born this year in China. They grow at a rate of 50 grams a day.
