India, Mar 6: Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs released the city rankings under the Ease of Living Index (E0LI) 2020. 111 cities participated in this index. EoLI is an assessment tool to evaluate the quality of life and the impact of various initiatives for urban development. Its framework covers:
- Quality of Life (35% Weightage): Education, Health, Housing & Shelter, WASH & SWM, Mobility, Recreation, and Safety & security.
- Economic Ability (15% Weightage): Level of Economic Development and Economic Opportunities.
- Sustainability (20% Weightage): Environment, Green Space & Buildings, Energy Consumption, and City Resilience.
- Citizen Perception Survey (30% Weightage)
The two categories for ranking, i.e, Million+ and Less than a Million, are decided basis the population in those cities. Such assessments encourage all participating cities to learn the best practices from their peers, enhance their development plans and be competitive. The insights from the index also assist in evidence-based policymaking, leading to heightened efforts towards urban development and achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
