Rajnath Singh dedicates 63 bridges built by BRO to the nation

New Delhi, Jun 29: To strengthen road connectivity in border areas, defence minister Mr. Rajnath Singh inaugurated 63 bridges constructed by Border Roads Organization (BRO) in 6 states and 2 union territories. These are: 29 in Arunachal Pradesh, 11 in Ladakh, 8 in Sikkim, 6 in Uttarakhand, 4 in Jammu & Kashmir, 3 in Himachal Pradesh, and 1 each in Nagaland and Manipur.

BRO develops and maintains road networks in the Indian border areas, and functions under the defence ministry.

One of the bridges inaugurated is a 50 m long bridge constructed at the Leh and Loma Road in Ladakh. It is made up of single span steel and it replaces the previously built Bailey bridge (it is a type of portable and prefabricated bridge.) This bridge is significant as it would help in the movement of military troops and heavy weapons like guns, tanks, etc. and improve connectivity in border areas.
