New Delhi, Sep 17: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana, a project under the broader Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, on 17 September 2021. Under this Yojana, training shall be provided to the youth of India through railway training institutes. The inaugural ceremony took place at Rail Bhawan on the auspicious occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday as a part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
How does the project work?
- Training shall be provided to over 50,000 candidates over a duration of 3 years. Initially 1,000 candidates will be provided with training in four trades – welder, electrician, fitter and machinist.
- 75 railway institutes from across the country have been selected to provide training to the candidates, completely free of cost.
- Candidates shall be selected based on their online applications and matriculation marks.
- A website shall be developed as a single source of information regarding all training programs,notifications around applications, selection results, study material, and final assessments.
- All candidates will have to undergo an assessment and shall be awarded certificates for theircorresponding trade by National Rail & Transportation Institute after their training completion.
