Quick Update: Royal Mail UK ransomware attack

On January 11, The Royal Mail of UK shared that it was facing severe disruption after a cyber incident, but did not share details.

For many British businesses who depend on Royal mail to send their parcels to international customers, this week of not working means thousands in losses.

However, it took the CEO six days to admit that their cyber incident was a ransomware attack.

They only did this after the ransomware entity – Lockbit, took responsibility for the attack.

Royal Mail employs 159,000 people and is a multi-billion dollar entity.

This is Lockbit’s largest recorded victim. In the recent past, Lockbit has claimed responsibility for at least 40 ransomware attacks globally.

Even before the cyber-attack, Royal Mail parcels were delayed because of the strikes in the UK.
