Union Cabinet approves President’s rule in Puducherry, President’s approval awaited
Delhi, Feb 24: Remember the long Puducherry story that we shared last week? Here is an update to that story. On February 21st , Congress MLA K Lakshminarayanan and DMK’s K Venkatesan resigned. This put the current government in absolute minority.
Before the trust vote could be presented in the Legislative Assembly, the CM, Sri V Narayanasamy, tendered his resignation. The resignation was accepted by the Lieutenant Governor (LG), Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan. Following the process, the LG recommended that the Assembly should be dissolved and President’s rule should be imposed in Puducherry. On February 24th , the Union cabinet approved this proposal and sent it to the President for his approval. The assembly elections to the Puducherry assembly are due in 2 months. Until then, the Union Territory (UT) is likely to remain under President’s rule, with the LG acting as the administrator.
