Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’

India, Mar 13: As India marches towards the 75th anniversary of its independence on 15th August 2022, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the event, ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’ (meaning ‘the elixir of freedom’) to commemorate the historic and patriotic occasion. This event marks the beginning of 75-week long celebrations up to the Independence Day next year. The Mahotsav is being celebrated as a Jan-Utsav in the spirit of Jan-Bhagidari (all-inclusive). On 12th March, PM Modi paid floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad and flagged off a symbolic 386km ‘Dandi March’ (padayatra) from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to Dandi in Navsari district of South Gujarat, which will end in 25 days, on April 5. This day marks the 91st anniversary of the historic salt march led by Mahatma Gandhi which played a key role in furthering the spirit of self- sufficiency and pride in Indians. With the vision of creating a new, AatmaNirbhar Bharat by the year 2022, all ministries and departments are hosting a series of events for a growing, self-reliant, and self- sufficient India. The new modern India has been envisioned as one which would have the perfect blend of traditions and a modern, new-age global mindset. PM Modi mentioned that going ‘Vocal for Local’ is a wonderful tribute to Bapu and great freedom fighters. He also launched a website dedicated to Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav. This event would also include year-long programs like, ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Great India), across India to highlight India’s rich heritage, culture and legacy, ideologies, development, achievements post-independence around the theme ‘Azadi 2.0’.
