PM Modi launches National Common Mobility Card

Also launches India’s first Driverless Train for Delhi Metro

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the fully operational National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) service for the Airport Express Line of Delhi Metro in a virtual function. NCMC is a unified technological interface which makes it easy for users to use one card across different platforms. This interface will allow passengers using a RuPay debit or credit card issued in the last 18 months (by any of the 23 banks issuing the cards) to swipe it for travel via Delhi Metro. Cards issued from anywhere in India will work on the Airport Express Line. By 2022, the cards will work across the entire Delhi Metro network.

He also launched India’s first driverless train on Delhi Metro’s Magenta line which connects Janakpuri West in West Delhi to Botanical Gardens in Noida. The driverless trains will be fully automated and will not depend on human intervention. By mid-2021, this will also be extended to the Pink line connecting Majlis Park and Shiv Vihar. With this feat, India has entered into the 7% of the elite Metro networks with fully automated systems.
