Connects India and Bangladesh
Tripura, Mar 9: PM Modi virtually inaugurated the ‘Maitri Setu’ (meaning friendship bridge) today. This bridge, which spans 1.9 kilometres, joins Sabroom in India with Ramgarh in Bangladesh. It has been built over the Feni river which flows through India and Bangladesh. The name of the bridge symbolises the growing bilateral relations and friendly ties between India and Bangladesh.
Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina also declared the Chittagong and Mongla ports as Ports of Call (a place where a ship stops on a voyage). This would allow India to use the waterways in Bangladesh for its trade activities. This bridge would also improve connectivity of south Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura with Bangladesh and South-East Asia.
The Prime Minister spent a few minutes speaking in Kokborok – the dialect of Tripura’s indigenous community.
