PM Modi receives Bhutan's highest honour

PM Modi bestowed with Bhutan’s highest civilian award

The Kingdom of Bhutan conferred its highest civilian award, the ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’ (Ngadag Pel gi Khorlo) upon the Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.


It was announced by the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Mr. Lotay Tshering on the occasion of the country’s 114th National Day. This award was instituted in 2008 and is presented to the people who have made distinguished contributions to society and people in Bhutan.


PM Modi is the first foreigner to receive this award. He thanked the King of Bhutan and the PM, for this honour.


Indo-Bhutan relationship


India and Bhutan share an important and unique bilateral relationship. India is the largest trade and development partner of Bhutan. India has helped Bhutan in developing many projects. The main projects include 4 major hydroelectric projects, the Paro airport, and Bhutan Broadcasting station.


India is the leading source of investment in Bhutan. Bhutan was the first country to receive 1.5 lakh doses of India’s Covishield vaccine.
