Government lists 33 bills including 22 new ones & 11 ordinances
New Delhi, Sep 14: The monsoon session of the Parliament started on Monday and will be held from 14th September and continue till 1st October. The Lower House (Lok Sabha) held its first day proceedings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Upper House (Rajya Sabha) held its proceedings from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that major decisions will be taken during Parliamentary proceedings. Apart from the 11 bills to replace Ordinances, the government plans to introduce and pass 22 new bills in the session.
In India, bills are made laws when they are passed by both the legislative houses of the Parliament i.e. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. However, in case of an extraordinary, unforeseen or emergency circumstance, Article 123 of the Indian constitution allows the government to pass critical laws known
as Ordinances. So, an ordinance is a law made by the government without passing it through the Lower and the Upper houses.
The Budget session of the Parliament was adjourned sine die (cancelled
or postponed without assigning a new date for the meeting) on 23rd March, 12 days ahead of its schedule due to the pandemic.
